I usually go to bed when Emily tells me it's time for bed (a small, but significant sign of devotion). I do not have to go to sleep, like a child, I'm allowed to read if I'm not tired.
If Emily is out of town on business, as she is now, she'll often call to tell me it's time to go to bed.
"You can't call," I texted back.
"No, sorry, I'm out."
But sometimes (like tonight), she's out so she'll text instead.
Out? Out with friends. Out with co-workers. Out with someone she met at a conference. Or just out, at a table all alone, seeing what comes her way.
